five things friday

There are a bunch of events going on in Kansas City this weekend. Here are five I highly recommend checking out!

1. Greek Festival: Sept. 5-7

The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church presents the 53rd Annual Greek Festival (120th & Wornall Kansas City, MO). This is my favorite annual culinary festival, offering a variety of traditional Greek entrees prepared by local families. I volunteered for this festival a few years ago, and can vouch for the delicious authenticity of this food! In addition to the food, children and adults will be preforming on the main stage throughout the weekend.

2. Art Westport: Sept. 5-7

The 35th annual Art Westport is this weekend. The annual festival has become a Kansas City tradition and is a favorite among local artists. The three-day event will take place in Historic Westport, providing the perfect backdrop for a “Kansas City” Artists Fair. Top artists from around the Metro will line the streets of Westport showcasing their original art, unique jewelry, fine crafts and much more.

3. First Fridays in the Crossroads: Sept. 5

KC Crossroads hosts a First Friday art event the first Friday of every month. Galleries surrounding the Crossroads arts district will open their doors to the public, showcasing a wide range of local art. Tonight’s line-up of events can be found online here. In addition to the art, don’t miss The Truck Stop at 21st & Wyondotte St!

4. Chiefs Home Opener at Arrowhead Stadium: Sept. 7

It’s officially football season! While I am not a huge fan of the sport, the home opener game is an exciting Kansas City tradition. The Chiefs take on the Seattle Seahawks Sunday, Sept. 7 at 12 p.m. – a perfect opportunity to grab an early beer (or two!) at KC Bier Co. and watch the game with friends and family.

5. Broadway Bridge 5k, 10k, & Half-Marathon: Sept. 7

Feel like squeezing in a race before the big game? The Broadway Bridge Run is a fun race in downtown Kansas City. The course shuts down the iconic Broadway Bridge, and offers amazing views of the KC skyline. Stop by the farmer’s market and Happy Gillis for breakfast after the run! (their breakfast sammie can’t be beat!)

Happy Friday!
